Hyposalinity questions...

I quarantined my group of fishes and went on hyposalinity for 40days. After that was done and all fishes seemed free of ich, I transferred them na sa DT ko. It's been a month now since I transferred them...napansin ko this week parang may white dots yun fins ng bat fish ko. Tonight, tiningnan ko talaga and it looks like ich spots. Di ko alam bakit may ich paren DT ko even after I've hypo DT before and hypo fishes sa quarantine before I transferred. Talaga bang di maiwasan ang ich...laging present sa tank yan?

I plan to hypo my whole DT now since FOWLR lang ako. How fast can I go to bring salinity down? Alam ko kailangan mabagal ang pagakyat ng salinity, but does that go for lowering also? I'm currently on 1.20...can i go to 1.10 in 3days?

Also,, would you know if kaya ng remora fish ang hypo? I never tried kasi since I read di pwede sa sharks and hypo. Pero as I understand, remoras are considered fish and not sharks right? Theres so little to read about remoras sa net. Would anyone know if I can hypo my remora too, or must I transfer sa QT ko.

gradual lang IME. i did hypo sometime last year. 75gal tank (total of 110gal). did 3gal a day of freshwater until i reached 1.10. dapat mejo accurate yung pang measure mo ng salinity (i used refractometer for this) -- again im not an expert (just followed advises from other fellow member-reefers here) on this wait pa natin responses from the gurus.

im not sure about the remora coz i never had this particular fish before.

I used to hyposalinity the hell out of my fish. TO some it is effective. It was effective for me, I got rid of ich.


Lately since my tank got reinfected because I carelessly placed 2 infected coral beauty angelfish, I discovered that when the fish are healthy, the ich goes away by itself. Then through googling I learned that fish can develop immunity to ich.

SO I just feed my fish well and keep with the regular water changes. My fish are spot free...

ako 6 months na yatang nasa 1.010, way over the 3 months suggested duration for hyposalinity treatment. no signs of ich; fishes seem ok for those months but of course there's no exact way to tell how they are.

going back to the question, i think faster drop in salinity is ok since it reduces osmosis pressure as i've read somewhere. newly bought fishes diretso dt because of that basis.

baka lang your salinity didn't go down below the minimum salinity that ich could survive on, and/or didnt cover the whole life cycle of ich (on either tanks)

IME, biglain mo drop ng salinity. Ako, in 2hours, bagsak agad to .10, para ma-shock mga itch. Also, pag my bago ako fishes, nilalagay ko agad sa hypo.. As long as condition sila, hypo agad! Nga lang, itch lng kayang mpatay ng hypo..
