Temp 30 to 31 degrees celsius

Postby richardhao » Tue Jul 02, 2013 10:01 am

My zoas are not as open as they used to be. Stop using gfo, thought it was the cause. After 2 weeks and wc they are still the same. Worst is that my acan melted. And a part of my blasto died. Is it due to my temp? Chiller broke down months ago and my ls have experienced the heat for the past few months. Tried putting a big electric fan, still no use.

I'm not that good when dealing with problems pero I think if water param is good, then temp is the cause kasi sanay sila naka chiller tapos biglang shift sa init. My tank's temp is 30-33 everyday pero naka open naman sila lahat kasi dun ko sila sinanay na water temp.

Richard, could you post some pics of the problem? Try to post your water parameters as well and the schedule of your tank maintenance, especially WCs.

I somehow agree with Aaron, the first sign of temperature-related problems would be bleaching. If your LPS corals are dying en masse, there probably is a problem in your water like allelopathy (chemical warfare) or a problem in parameters - especially calcium, alkalinity and magnesium; or if the tissue recession is very gradual then the probable cause could be starvation. Keep in mind that all photosynthetic corals require feeding every once in a while as they only get a part of their nutrition from zooxanthellae.
Cheers,
Marty

Yap alk is 6 to 7. Stop dosing alk ako lately. No3 is 5 to 10ppm, po4 is undtectble using api. Ca is 420. Ph is 8.2 wc every two weeks 10gal. Running biopellet. Run carbon lately dahil i thought chemical warfare. Dont know kung dahil sa ilaw, using led na, dati mh. Very close of thinking to shut down my cube and mag fowlr na lang. Bukang buka mga sunflower ko, dont know why other zoas are half open, others are coverd in brown algae yata. Kahit nag gfo ako dati hindi matanggal. Na over yata ako ng gamit ng gfo kaya nag react ibang zoas.

There you go, alk is low. Might as well check your Mg as well. As for the closed zoas, the most probable culprit aside from water issues are the algae that settled on them.

Jourdy is correct. Corals are very resilient animals. Heck, they have been here forever. Best and fastest fix, hands-down for common tank maladies is major WC. Using good replacement saltwater, of course. :)

Marty

Gamit ko blue treasure reef salt. Low alk readings nila.

If alkalinity is the only problem, then that could be easily corrected by adding sodium bicarbonate (baking soda).

Here's what I use
