Planning on SW Setup

Postby CreepngDeth » Sat May 31, 2014 11:00 am

Hi guys im new here lang po. Im planning to set up a Saltwater aquarium po, I already have an aquarium. 15 gallon aquarium po sya. Magkano kaya magagastos mga sir for the live rocks, sand, at yung equipments po like filter, lights and if ever need ng kit. Im planning to go to cartimar for my needs po. Thank you po sa mga magrereply!

I am also new to the hobby just like you. But I am cycling my system now.
I know a bit but just to give my inputs as well:
- Small tank such as 15g is not for starters like us.It's difficult to stabilize; The health of the system swings a lot.
- People who has this has a vast experience in reefing and with good sense of husbandry.
- Let us just start with 50g and it's more realistic and encouraging rather than frustrating.
- I started mine (50g) approximately 3,000PHP Meron na din kasi akong existing 50g tank.
- Yes you can buy natural saltwater, The hauling is a challenge. I used a saltmix for convenience.

I usually do not give advice because I am very new, but the moment I saw your post you're going to Cartimar to shop. I HAVE TO STOP YOU. that is not the way to start, Some store in there will offer you instant Saltwater system, It's a rip-off. Give yourself time to read on this forum you will learn a lot how to start and sustain the hobby.

Please do not go to Cartimar just yet. Believe me, it happened to me.

Just to give you a ballpark figure on how much you need:
live sand 25-30 per kilo
live rocks 25-30 per kilo ( you need at leas 1.5-2pounds of live rock per gallon of water, if i'm not mistaken)
the pumps you need i'd rather buy from fevmarine ranges from 300php up yung mga sunsun/ resun
you can go to their website to check the prices fevmarine.com or in the sponsors section
they also have saltmix (blue treasure around 750-800 per 50gallons), and Natural seawater 10php per gallon (i buy mine from them)
lighting, it depends if you going fowlr or reef. If fowlr any lighting will do kahit disco lights hehe joke.
If reef better ask Seth, created2praise, aarong, and the other reefers here
hope this helps.

btw if you will use saltmix make sure you don't use tapwater, use rodi water

Thanks po sa mga reply.. Magccheck lng sana ako sa cartimar canvas kung baga wala parin kasi ako pera for now eh. Naka tulong po ng mainam replies nyo. Im not sure din kasi pa kung ilan kailangan kong sand and rock pa para sa 15g tank. Nakita ko nga sa mga post dito na mahirap daw yun smaller tank for a saltwater aquarium. Sayang naman kasi yung aquarium ko na 15g if bbili pa uli ako ng another tank and wala rin kami space sa bahay for much bigger tank. Hmm for filtration gusto ko sana yung over top lang or hang on back.

I've checked the fevmarine site. Andami items kakatuwa. Meron ba sila branch here in manila? Ok lang ba if ever magpunta ko cartimar eh bumili ako ng sand then liverock and equipments such as filter, wave maker, hydrometer anu paba need ko for umpisa? Saltwater mix. Hmm ok lang ba yung filtered water from faucet? Meron kz kami pang filter yung nabibili sa ace hardware kaso dko alam kung pede ba yun. Yung type ng filter nya eh yung me 2 pass na filter. Ok naba yun o talagang need ko bumili ng natural sea water or RODI? Or should i give up nalang dahil 15g lang ang tank ko? :( sensya napo at madami tanong.

Good advice by Lucy Park

You can have a small tank even without a skimmer, take EJAbadesco's pico tank as a good example. Armand used to have a thriving 10g pico reef with just an OHF before. But if you do not have the time and patience for it you may end up with a tank full of algae and dead animals. Try to research first what you want to keep, and set realistic goals.

kung ituloy mo man yang 15 g mo, start slowly and save up money as you get more familiar with the hobby. Pwede naman na yan lang muna tapos FOWLR or marine plabted or even a basic reef.

Cheers,
Marty

sayang wag mag give up sa hobby na to.
just dont get the blue bag na saltmix sa carti hindi raw maganda yun.
and master test kit 950php

after ma cycle tank mo tyka ka na mag add ng skimmer, or Ats, uas or ano pang gusto mo...

Simulan ko muna as a FOWLR yung tank ko. Then as i learn more here in this forum, saka na siguro ko mag-add ng mga kailangan para maging kahit basic reef lang sya..

I'll be posting it at the end of my post. Hmm.. Yung Hang-on Back kaya na Filter ok sya? 400+ something yung price nung HOB Filter. Power head is around 400+ din. Me tanong pala ako Sir.. Then siguro pag me budget na i'll search for the skimmer.

Here's the link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGlR1RlBVkM

I don't want to rush it. :D

(ako nagandahan ako hehe) hanapin mo nalang I can't remember yung name niya eh.

Hmm if maglalagay ako ng powerhead or wavemaker ilang watts kaya yung ok or anong type po?
