Good day sirs, newbie here on his first tank.

Bumili ako ng 10+kg of live rock from fevmarine for my 20 gallon tank and after 6 days wala pa ako nakikitang life sa rock. Alam ko na bacteria na di natin makita naman yun dahilan sa pagiging "live" niya but sabi nung nagtitinda na di siya magcycyle kung yung live rock lang gamit ko so kailangan ko maglagay ng hipon? Naglagay na ako ng hipon so nag cycycle na siya. Is there anyway na ma-test kung really live rock yung nasa tank ko? Sorry kung very noob questions hehe, very excited (curious, and also confused) to start with this hobby.

There's really no way to tell if it's live or not, unless dry rock mo sya binili. Kung nasa holding tank na ng matagal yan bago mo pa na-transfer sa tank mo, for sure live rock na yan at may mga bacteria na dyan.

I never used shrimps to cycle my tank. Puro live rocks lang and sand ginamit ko. Nakapag-cycle naman ako. I was under the impression that since I was using live rocks, there will be die offs during the first few weeks. May mga worms ako nakita during cycling, and they either died due to the ammonia build up or nagtago sa bato, though di ko na sila ulit nakita.

It's already there so might as well use it, though put it in a mesh bag, then isabit mo sa accessible spot. Kapag nabulok kasi yan, madudurog yan. Also, you don't want to have too much ammonia spike so once na tumaas na sya, madali lang tanggalin yung shrimp.

Has anyone here tried buying live rock from the same LFS? Until now I see absolutely no hitchhikers on the rock

Ako bro kay fevmarine din ako bumili 3weeks na nga ng cycle tank ko pero parang same padin no hitchhikers. Plan ko nga is bumili nlng ng additional live rock sa cartimar sa kathrina's petshop.

Mukhang halos sabay tayo kumuha, bad batch kaya nakuha natin? Mahirap pa naman para sa akin na pumuntang cartimar para kumuha ng ibang LR.

Hmm d naman siguro bro. Lets wait and see nlang kung may improvement. maybe antyn ntn for 1more month. Pero nag cycle ako with fish bumili ako 1 six line wrasse..

@miah sa tapat ng sm savemore cartimar ung kathrina's but chambahan lang dn kung may maganda live rock sila..

I'll update this thread if things do change hehe. Mukhang parallel progress natin sir fowlrtank, same rocks at the same time.

Well its been more than one month after I put the rocks in and I still see nothing new with the rocks so I think I can conclude that the rocks are probably dead rocks May mga reefer ba dito na taga san juan na pwedeng tumulong sa pag-seed sa "dead" rocks ko? Siguro kailangan ko rin ng coralline scrapings.
