I just purchase a 102 gallon tank with a cabinet. I want to make it into a FOWLR aquarium. Can someone point me into the right direction to buy the equipment to get this up and running in the coming months? I gotten a quote from a shop in Manila 100K to setup it up with equipment and fish. smh. Any assistance is appreciated.

check out our sponsors. :) Since it will only be FOWLR, lighting it need not be expensive. Even a couple of NO T5s or inexpensive lights would suffice.

What I suggest is you focus on your filtration and circulation system, get a nice skimmer, a DC return pump and a couple of wavemakers, get some filter mats and maybe activated carbon as well. Having a well lit and well arranged refugium would be a nice addition too.

Even if it's just FOWLR, keep nutrients low and parameters in check. Better that than losing fishes. Especially expensive ones. :)

Aquariatech has good skimmers and equipments, FEV Marine have DC pumps, NSW and other filtration needs.

Try to have a quarantine tank too.
Cheers,
Marty

Hi Guys, newbie here. I started reading the board this last couple of days and I appreciate all the information. Very educating!

Un nga lng sumablay ako.. went to cartimar last saturday to buy a freshwater setup but when I saw saltwater setups, I fell in love with it the first time i saw it. So what I did was to canvass around the area. I never had any experience with SW aquarium so mali ko na sales talk ako ng wala sa oras... I should have researched first... so ang ending, napabili ako ng setup worth 5K package daw un.

What I got was 10 live corals, 10 live rocks, white sand and shells, 20 fishes of my choice and ang kicker dun, 20G lang ung aquarium so at first i was really happy for such a bargain and the 20G is just enough for me kasi ilalagay ko lng sa study table ko.

sa ngaun, 2 na lang ang nabubuhay kong LS, 2/20!!! corals ko inalis ko na ung iba I only have 5/10 and 4 live rocks. after nun nagresearch na ko and I found this site. I guess it's better late than never... good thing sa binilan ko is may "warranty" ung LS. pag may namatay, ibalik ko lng daw sa kanila at papalitan nila. pero tinapon ko na ung mga LS ko at pinicturan ko na lng dahil wala akong time pumunta pag weekdays dahil sa work so wait ako till saturday.

Sa ngaun, im still in the midst of setting up a reef pero sa nangyari sa akin baka I'll settle down with FOWLR first.. so ngaun, I am currently treating my LS with some solution and I hope magsurvive silang 2... wala akong binago sa setup ko af of today and my LS are looking better kahit naka reef pa rin ang setup ko. Note wala akong skimmer, mamahaling lights or chiller. I think I will conduct an experiment with those 2... BTW, wala akong water test kit... ang meron lng ako hydrometer... d ko alam ang PH ng aquarium ko sa ngaun.. nitrate or nitrite.. in other words, nagsasayang lng ako...

For other newbies katulad ko na walang alam sa ganitong hobby, i hope you find this experience as a lesson. hindi basta basta tong hobby na to. it needs time, effort, patience and money... I will set up a new system maybe next week... I will update you guys. Sorry sa mahabang kwento! :)

@kapitbahay no need.

Yung ang purpose kung bakit tayo bumibili ng "liverock" in the first place.
Cheers,
Marty

Good day reefers, its been days nung binasa ko yung thread na ito :D hehe but its worth the hours took for me on reading each and every post here.. hehe.. I have this idea on building ang customizing my tank pa comment nalang po mga sir kung tama ba yung setup ko. or I have to change something..

Here is my Schematics kung papaano ko sya isesetup
Image

20g DT with 2 1" holes one for overflow 1 for Return
20g Sump 3 division
1 Return pump rated 100Gallon
DIY Skimmer with wood dulo
1 7500 air pump
DIY led lights

Tama po ba yung setup ko mga sir? or my dapat pa akong palitan.?

Plan ko po eh FOWLR lang muna saka na ako mag reef pipigilin ko muna sarili ko heheh until makuha ko na yung tamang pagalaga ng marine tank.

Question:
Kung bibili ako ng NSW sa cartimar and live sands and live rocks.. pwede ko na ba silang ilagay sa tank after ko ma rinse or need ko pa silang ibilad sa araw yung live rocks and i stock ko muna yung NSW?
